News from Calista's Legal Department

Recently, Calista's Legal Department developed a new standard mining exploration lease, due in large part to the strength gained from our relationship with Barrick/Placer Dome gold mining company.

Calista is now in a position to direct even more protection for its people, its lands and its assets; one way to do this is to broaden our insurance requirements from mining companies that will operate in our region.

Calista's lands will be protected by the requirement that mining companies post a substantial reclamation bond. This bond, in addition to one required by the State of Alaska, represents funds set aside for repairing (referred to as 'reclaiming') land that has been disturbed.

While the Environmental Protection Agency, the state, and numerous governmental permitting agencies already work together to provide a very high degree of protection from environmental harm, Calista acknowledged our shareholders and brought your concerns to mining companies in our region.

From this, mining companies must have reclamation bonds before they are even allowed to begin exploration activities in our region.Further, Calista maintains its right to inspect exploration and mining activities at any time. Like a lease for a home, Calista (as landlord) must give reasonable notice before arriving. This notice is to ensure that Calista's representatives will be safe and that someone from the mining company will be available to consult with them.

Calista also maintains the rights to inspect the mining companies' books and perform audits. Calista will continue to work diligently to ensure that its lands and people receive the best possible care and protection.

What may be most notable, and have lasting impact throughout our region, is Calista's insistence that agreements include a preference for hiring Calista shareholders and their descendants. This will provide our people with extremely specialized skills and experience valued in mining and associated industries in Alaska and throughout the world.

Calista Corporation will always do its best to advance our shareholder's and descendants best interests with development opportunities.
